GIY's Michael Kelly was elected an Ashoka Fellow in 2010.
The Arthur Guinness Fund is an innovative investment vehicle set up to further the legacy of Arthur Guinness and support social entrepreneurs around the world. In April 2010, the Arthur Guinness Fund distributed €1 million amongst ten social entrepreneurs from across Ireland, covering a diverse range of interests, each making a significant difference to local communities, primarily in Ireland and also abroad. Awardees also benefit from access to practical support and expertise through Diageo Ireland support and Social Entrepreneurs Ireland’s alumni network. GIY Ireland was one of the ten awardees in 2010.
innocent make it easy for people to do themselves some good (whilst making it taste nice too). They started innocent in 1999 after selling smoothies at a music festival. We put up a big sign asking people if they thought we should give up our jobs to make smoothies, and put a bin saying 'Yes' and a bin saying 'No" in front of the stall. Then we got people to vote with their empties. At the end of the weekend, the 'Yes' bin was full, so we resigned from our jobs the next day and got cracking. Since then we've started making veg pots, juices and kids' drinks, in our quest to make natural, delicious, healthy foods that help people live well and die old.
