Other food you can growFor most GIYers, the progression to home-grown food utopia starts with herbs, then progresses to veg and then to fruit. But for many, the journey doesn't end there and branches in to the wonderful world of nuts, mushrooms and more! |

PigsOink, oink - irascible, exasperating, charming, maddening, delicious. Keeping pigs is like advanced GIYing - it can turn a garden in to a smallholding, a field in to a farm. Pigs will root up and improve soil, produce a tonne of great farmyard manure and provide meat for a family of four for a whole year. What's not to love? |

Barter BoardEvery GIYer knows what it's like to have a sudden glut of produce - more tomatoes then you can shake a stick at, courgettes coming out your nose etc. This is a barter board where you can exchange produce. Half a dozen eggs for a punnet of strawberries? Good deal. Remember, keep it local, be specific and see what happens. |
